There is a lot more awareness of the need for self defense after the terrible events at Sandy Hook school. Ever since Columbine these incidents keep happenning.

Understanding what to do can make a differense between life and death. The training gives kids confidence in their ability to act in order to defend themselves, rather than just be a victim.

Self Defense For Children

Self defense for children can be looked at as promoting self confidence which makes a lot of sence to Lee Shaykhet, Self Defense Expert.

One reason children do so well in Lee’s self defense training programs, is because they do not have any bad habits.

They also have an open mind and learn quickly and easily.

The youngest person to go through Lee’s self defense program was a five year old girl.

Self Defense Program at Yoga Shelter

I just finished my seld defense training program at Yoga Sheler.

The vast majority of students were women.

They did very well. It is common for women and kids to learn quickly and be effective at self defense, because my type of self defense programs are simple and not based on muscle.

Traditional martial arts versus practical self defense applications

I had an interesting conversation with a lady about the effectiveness of traditional martial arts in real life situations, as compared to practical self defense.
She studied martial arts for about 4 years and then was involved in a confrontation. When she tried to use her martial arts, the resus were ineffective. As she put it: “It didn’t do anything”

It is important to have situational awareness.

In simple english that means to pay attention to your environment and to what is happening around you.

If something doesn’t look or feel right, there is usually a reason for that.

At that point the best thing to do is to leave and get away from the threat if at all possible.
